Beauval Zoo has built a biomethane plant to recycle 11,000 tonnes of biowaste on site, most of which is produced by the business itself (green waste and zoo manure). The biogas generated is converted into electricity and heat by a 265 kW cogenerator. The heat produced is used in the hothouses and pools that house the zoo’s animals. The plant reduces CO₂ emissions by 1,107 tonnes every year.
