EARL du Lac de Matefan is an organic pig farming business that already produces enough food and energy to be self-sufficient. Its biomethane plant was built with the aim of advancing this approach, recycling the effluents generated through animal husbandry and generating 160 kW of electricity. The biogas produced is converted into heat and electricity. The digestate is used to fertilise crop fields to produce feed for the animals. The heat produced is used to heat farrowing barns, a private residence, a gite and a swimming pool.
